Louisiana Motorcyclist Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash Along Interstate 10 Where Speed Was ‘Expected to Be a Factor’

In the law, negligence exists when someone who had a duty did something they shouldn’t have done (or failed to do something they should have done), and that negligence was the reasonably foreseeable cause of the harm that ensued. All drivers on the road have a duty to everyone else on the road to operate their vehicle in a safe manner. When a driver fails to do so, such as speeding though congested traffic, then a crash with injuries or deaths is a foreseeable result. If you’ve been hurt by the negligence of someone behind the wheel, then you may be entitled to compensation. You should contact an experienced New Orleans motorcycle accident attorney about your situation right away.

An accident from late June was just the latest fatal crash on Louisiana’s interstate highways. According to a wwltv.com report, traffic on eastbound I-10 had slowed in St. Charles Parish one Friday afternoon due to congestion. L.E., who was traveling “at a high rate of speed” according to the report, encountered the congestion but did not slow down in time. His SUV crashed into the rear of a pickup truck driven A. The impact was forceful enough that it knocked A’s pickup into the Harley Davidson motorcycle in front of him. Not only did the truck and the Harley hit, they collided with enough force that the impact pushed the bike into another pickup and it threw 27-year-old S. off the motorcycle, the report stated.

Although S. was wearing a helmet, he died at the scene. The wwltv.com report indicated that speed was “expected to be a factor of the crash.”

Situations like these are always tragic. They also point out the importance of taking timely action to protect your rights and those of your loved ones. In a case where an accident was caused by a speeding driver, as may have been the case in this St. Charles Parish crash, there may be an opportunity to seek compensation for the damages you suffered.

Multi-car accidents can be particularly complex. The facts of your case may entitle you to seek compensation from one or perhaps more than one driver. If one or more of the drivers whom you sue was on the job at the time of the accident, then you may be able to seek compensation from that employer under the theory or something called “vicarious liability.”

Depending on the extent of the injuries involved, you may be entitled to various forms of damages, including past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost wages. Whenever an accident involving negligence includes fatality, the loss is heartbreaking and no amount of money can replace that loved one. However, that also does not change the fact that the victim’s untimely death may cause severe financial hardship to those left behind when it comes to that person’s financial contribution to the household. Without prompt action and a proper lawsuit, your family may be left in a deep financial crisis due to the loss.
